J&K Police Seize 8 kg of Heroin from Vehicle in Srinagar, Two Arrested

Srinagar, Jan 8 (NationPress) A significant drug operation was conducted by the J&K Police, resulting in the arrest of two peddlers and the recovery of eight kg of heroin.
A police announcement detailed that, in a successful anti-narcotic operation, police in the Srinagar district apprehended two drug peddlers from whom eight kg of heroin was seized.
"A ‘Naka’ (Checkpost) was set up by police station Qamarwari in Srinagar after receiving precise information regarding the movement of a narcotics consignment. At Barthana, a vehicle was halted for inspection. Six kg of heroin was found beneath the driver’s seat, while two kg was discovered with the other two individuals in the vehicle," the statement indicated.
The detained individuals have been identified as Anas Ajaz Awan from Dildar Tangdhar, Kupwara, and Zahid Ahmad Sheikh from Channipora, Tangdhar Kupwara.
"The narcotics and the vehicle utilized in the commission of the crime have been confiscated as evidence. A case under sections 8/21 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been filed at Police Station Parimpora. Further investigations are ongoing," the statement added.
"Initial investigations suggest that the narcotics were smuggled from Pakistan, forming part of a cross-border drug trafficking network," police disclosed.
The J&K Police are actively pursuing connections to dismantle various drug syndicates and to identify and apprehend all participants in the illegal trade.
Simultaneously, security forces are vigorously executing anti-terror operations aimed at terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers, with the goal of dismantling the terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
These operations were initiated following a series of heinous attacks executed by terrorists after the peaceful and participative Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in the union territory. Intelligence agencies assert that the successful conduct of elections, observed by diplomats from several nations, has frustrated the terror handlers across the border in Pakistan. Reports suggest that these handlers have instructed terrorists in J&K to make a final push for the waning terrorism in the region, with the smuggling of narcotics being part of their strategy.
