Bengaluru, May 15 (NationPress) The Congress-led government in Karnataka has ordered the Police Department to file an FIR against Madhya Pradesh Minister and BJP leader Vijay Shah due to his contentious comments regarding Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.
Karnataka's Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated, "Colonel Sofiya Qureshi is a daughter-in-law of Belagavi, with her husband originating from there. I have directed the Belagavi SP to proceed with filing an FIR and to notify the Central government for appropriate measures against the minister responsible for these remarks."
Parameshwara further emphasized, "The Minister's comments are not merely an affront to her, but also a disrespect to our state and the nation at large. Such an attitude is unacceptable. Consequently, we have instructed the relevant authorities to initiate legal proceedings against the minister."
Minister Shah faced backlash for his remarks, which stirred significant outrage in political arenas.
During a public event in Mhow, he referenced 'Operation Sindoor', stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had dispatched a "sister from the same community" as those from Pakistan to retaliate for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. This comment was largely interpreted as a jab at Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who is of the Muslim faith.
The Supreme Court has also raised questions regarding Minister Shah's remarks.
In response to Shah's controversial statement, BJP National General Secretary and Rajya Sabha member Radha Mohan Das Agarwal remarked, "The BJP does not heed advice from anti-national factions. If every statement demands resignations, then apart from senior Congress leaders like Shashi Tharoor and P. Chidambaram, no one in the Congress party would remain."
"We should first ask Rahul Gandhi to resign. Regarding Vijay Shah's comments, he has already issued two apologies, yet the party has not forgiven him. Just wait and see," MP Agarwal added.
He also expressed disappointment that Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah continues to make remarks against Hindus and the nation, aligning policies with such views. However, he commended Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress president D.K. Shivakumar for appearing to stand with the Indian armed forces.
