Vijayapura, May 9 (NationPress) A medical student was charged in Karnataka for sharing a message deemed 'pro-Pakistan' on social media, amid escalating tensions between India and its neighboring country, according to police reports released on Friday.
In response to significant backlash from Hindu groups, law enforcement filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 152 (actions threatening India’s sovereignty, unity, and integrity) and 197(3)(5) (imputations and assertions harmful to national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Authorities tracked the suspect's location to Mumbai and are set to pursue legal action against her.
Police Sub-Inspector Vinod Doddamani from the Vijayapura Rural Police Station took action after the student's social media post went viral, inciting strong protests from Hindu activist organizations.
The accused, identified as Tasaud Farooqui Sheik, a student at Al-Ameen Medical College in Vijayapura, reportedly posted a message advising: 'To my Pakistani friends, people of IOJK, AJK, avoid going near military or government installations.
