Kavitha meets Telangana Governor over land acquisition, demands justice for displaced families
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Telangana Rakshana Samithi (TRS) President K. Kavitha on Tuesday, 26 May met Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad, submitting a petition seeking justice for families displaced by land acquisition drives carried out by the state government across multiple locations. The delegation included Dharma Samaj Party President Visharadan Maharaj and representatives of affected communities.
Key Demands Placed Before the Governor
The petition urged the Governor to direct the state to provide house sites to all residents whose homes were demolished in Velugumatla in Khammam district. The delegation also called for the cancellation of the land acquisition notice issued for an industrial park in Kadlapur of Parigi Mandal.
Additionally, they raised concerns over the altered alignment of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and the land acquisition disputes arising from it. Two representatives each from Velugumatla, Kadlapur, and the RRR-affected areas were part of the delegation.
What Kavitha Said After the Meeting
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Kavitha said the Governor responded positively and expressed hope that justice would be served. She sharply criticised the state government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing it of demolishing the homes of women and describing him as a 'ruthless' Chief Minister.
Kavitha alleged that Revanth Reddy was 'spreading lies' by claiming to have turned displaced people into millionaires after 'merely distributing sarees worth one hundred rupees.' She called the Congress government a 'wicked' administration.
Partial Victories Claimed, Full Resolution Still Pending
Kavitha acknowledged that the sustained agitation by TRS and the Dharma Samaj Party had yielded some results. According to her, the government agreed to allocate land to Velugumatla victims at the same location, and land acquisition processes for the Parigi industrial park and the RRR project have been halted.
'All these represent partial victories for us. To achieve complete success, the involvement of the Central government is essential. That is precisely why we met with the Governor and explained these issues to him,' Kavitha said.
Threat of Fresh Agitation
Kavitha warned that if justice is not delivered to the victims, TRS and its allies would 'once again take up the path of agitation.' She expressed hope that the Governor would call for official reports on all the matters raised and respond constructively. The developments come amid broader political tensions in Telangana between the ruling Congress and opposition parties over land and welfare policies.
