Kejriwal Unveils Dr Ambedkar Scholarship Initiative for Dalit Students Before Elections

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) In anticipation of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party's national convenor and ex-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of the 'Dr Ambedkar Scholarship' initiative on Saturday. This program is designed to empower children from the Dalit community to access higher education at universities around the world without facing financial hurdles.

Speaking to a large audience, Kejriwal remarked: "Today, to honor Babasaheb Ambedkar, I am making a significant announcement. No child from the Dalit community should miss out on quality education due to financial limitations. Through the Dr Ambedkar Scholarship, the Delhi government will take care of all costs, including tuition and travel, for Dalit students accepted into foreign universities."

The scholarship will be available for talented students aspiring to study in various fields such as art, agriculture, law, medicine, engineering, and more.

This initiative is a reflection of Babasaheb Ambedkar's remarkable journey, having triumphed over poverty to earn degrees from esteemed international institutions. Kejriwal stressed that this program will provide equal opportunities for Dalit students to achieve similar accomplishments.

He clarified that children of government employees are also qualified for the scholarship. "This program is inclusive and aims to support every deserving student from the Dalit community, regardless of their parents' professional backgrounds," he added.

This announcement followed a controversy regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's comments in Parliament about Ambedkar.

Kejriwal criticized Shah, alleging that his statements in Parliament disrespected Babasaheb Ambedkar. "I take great pride in being an admirer of Ambedkar. His contributions are unmatched, and any insult directed at him affects not only me but also millions of his followers," he declared.

The controversy erupted following Amit Shah's address in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, December 17, during a debate about the Constitution. In a statement targeting the Congress party, Shah remarked that referencing Ambedkar's name had become a trend.

Protests ensued after Shah's comments, with the opposition accusing him of disrespecting the Architect of the Constitution.
