Jaipur, Sep 5 (NationPress) The state government has made it clear in the Assembly that no resolution has been adopted regarding the renaming of Khairthal-Tijara district to Bhartrihari Nagar, nor has there been a decision to relocate its headquarters to Bhiwadi.
In response to a query from Congress MLA Lalit Yadav, the government indicated that neither a circular nor a notification has been released by the Revenue Department concerning this matter.
This declaration has ignited political conversations, especially since the government previously suggested movement towards renaming the district.
On August 7, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav expressed gratitude on social media to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for endorsing the proposal to rename Khairthal-Tijara as Bhartrihari Nagar and to move the district headquarters to Bhiwadi.
Numerous BJP MLAs and local leaders congratulated the decision through their posts, which fostered the belief that the process was finalized. However, the government’s statement has contradicted these assertions, reigniting the discussion around the issue. Local opposition to the proposed changes has been notably strong.
Following the news in August, residents organized protests and even closed down markets multiple times in opposition to the headquarters' relocation. The agitation persists, with locals firmly believing that Khairthal-Tijara should remain as is and contesting Bhiwadi's designation as the center.
Sources noted that while the proposal was indeed drafted and had received approval at the Chief Minister’s level last month, additional processes, including required clearance from the Union Home Ministry, are still outstanding.
According to regulations, the name of any administrative unit—ranging from a village to a district—can only be altered with the Union Home Ministry's approval.
The confusion stems from the previous Gehlot government establishing new districts on August 4, 2023, including Khairthal-Tijara, while simultaneously calls were made for Bhiwadi to be designated as a separate district.
Consequently, the current government’s suggestion to rename and shift the headquarters has become a politically delicate matter.
