Khanna Becomes Punjab’s First Town for Segregated Waste Collection

Chandigarh, Jan 6 (NationPress) Punjab Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday launched the state’s inaugural pilot initiative for door-to-door collection and segregation of waste, allowing for the separate collection of wet and dry waste from each household within Khanna town.
Sond mentioned that this pilot project comes with an investment of Rs 4 crore and is set to run for a year. He expressed optimism that upon its success, this initiative will extend to other regions across Punjab.
The Minister highlighted that the administration, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is dedicated to achieving a garbage-free state, with Khanna city being the starting point of this significant endeavor.
He explained that both wet and dry garbage, along with solid waste, will be systematically collected from every household in all wards of Khanna.
With the inception of this project, no waste will be deposited at any other locations within the city, contributing to the elimination of garbage throughout all wards.
Additionally, all residential areas, businesses, and street vendors will be assigned a unique identification number linked to an app, through which a nominal bill for garbage collection will be sent to each user via mobile message.
Residents of the city can settle these user charges through online and offline methods. A complaint cell has also been established for this purpose, reachable via the toll-free number 1800-121-5721, ensuring that any garbage-related complaints will be addressed within 60 minutes.
Moreover, GPS tracking will be implemented on all vehicles designated for garbage collection, with real-time updates displayed on the control room’s screens.
The Minister expressed his vision of transforming Khanna City into a clean and beautiful place, emphasizing that this initiative is a step towards achieving that dream.
