New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has vehemently condemned the ongoing assaults on religious minorities in Bangladesh, with a specific focus on the Hindu community. His remarks come in light of the vicious killing of Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a prominent figure among Hindus in Bangladesh.

In a post on the social media platform X, Kharge accused the central government of inadequately protecting the rights of persecuted minorities through its diplomatic efforts with Bangladesh.

“Religious minorities, particularly our Hindu brothers and sisters, face relentless persecution in Bangladesh. The brutal slaying of Shri Bhabesh Chandra Roy, a distinguished leader of the Hindu community, underscores the failure of @narendramodi ji's cordial meeting with the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh,” he expressed on X.

Kharge referenced statistics shared in Parliament, indicating that in just the past two months, there have been 76 assaults on Hindus in Bangladesh, leading to 23 fatalities.

He asserted that acts of violence and intimidation against other minority groups have also persisted.

Additionally, he criticized a controversial statement made by the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh, Muhammad Yunus, regarding India's northeastern states, labeling it as “condemnable and disappointing.”

Furthermore, Kharge charged that there are ongoing efforts in Bangladesh to “erase the historical memory of the 1971 Liberation War,” a conflict where India played a vital role in facilitating Bangladesh's independence.

“The atrocities against religious minorities in Bangladesh, violations of human rights, and attempts to obliterate the memories of the 1971 Liberation War are all strategies aimed at undermining India-Bangladesh relations,” he remarked.

He emphasized that India has consistently advocated for peace, stability, and inclusive development in Bangladesh since 1971. “From 1971 to the present day, India has always pursued peace and prosperity for all the people of Bangladesh, which is crucial for the subcontinent,” he added.
