Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 announced that the Komuravelli Punyakshetram Railway Station in Telangana is set for inauguration soon, with construction 99.5% complete at a project cost of ₹5.63 crores. The station is designed to improve rail access for pilgrims travelling to the Komuravelli Mallanna Swamy Temple, one of the most visited religious sites in the state.

Context

The Komuravelli Mallanna Swamy Temple, located in Siddipet district, is dedicated to Lord Mallanna — a form of Shiva — and draws large numbers of devotees annually, particularly during festival seasons. The absence of a dedicated rail halt had long been a logistical challenge for pilgrims arriving from across Telangana and neighbouring states. The new station directly addresses that gap by placing rail infrastructure at the doorstep of the shrine.

The project aligns with the Central government's broader push to modernise rail infrastructure at pilgrimage and heritage destinations. The Amrit Bharat Stations scheme, introduced in the 2023-24 Union Budget, has prioritised station redevelopment with locally themed architecture and upgraded passenger amenities across India. The Komuravelli Punyakshetram Railway Station reflects that template: its architectural elevation incorporates local heritage motifs, and mural paintings depicting the presiding deity, regional flora, and fauna are part of the design brief.

Indian Railways is the executing agency for the project, with funding channelled through the Union Budget. The station includes a high-level passenger platform measuring 450 metres by 10 metres, five platform shelters, a spacious waiting hall, and seating with 3-seater benches. Booking counters, a circulating area, parking facilities, and drinking water points on the platform are also part of the build. Separate toilet facilities for ladies, gents, and Divyangjan (persons with disabilities) have been provided, along with well-developed approach roads. The station building features an entrance portico and the heritage-themed architectural elevation described above.

The primary beneficiaries are the pilgrims and devotees who visit the Mallanna Swamy Temple throughout the year, many of whom currently rely on road transport from the nearest rail junction.
