Did Prashant Kishor Slam Bihar's Government Over Law and Order After Meeting Darbhanga Victim's Family?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Patna, Feb 11 (NationPress) The convener of Jan Suraaj, Prashant Kishor, paid a visit on Wednesday to the family of a six-year-old girl who was reportedly sexually assaulted and murdered in Darbhanga, offering his condolences. During this visit, Kishor launched a scathing critique of the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government, claiming that there has been a total breakdown of law and order in the state, referring to the current situation as the “Jungle Raj of officers.”
After his meeting with the victim's relatives, Kishor expressed grave concerns regarding women’s safety in Bihar, emphasizing that girls are not safe and that the administration is functioning in what he called a state of lawlessness.
He accused the police of targeting those who speak out for justice rather than holding the accountable officials responsible.
Kishor highlighted police actions following protests in Darbhanga, noting that six individuals were arrested and that frequent police raids have instilled fear within the community.
“Two significant incidents have occurred here—one involving the rape and murder of a minor and another concerning those who demanded justice for her and her family. It is only natural for people to protest after such a horrific event. The primary culprit here is the police, yet instead of addressing accountability, FIRs have been filed against the protesters,” Kishor remarked.
He emphasized that ensuring public safety is the police's foremost duty. “If such a dreadful incident hadn’t taken place, citizens wouldn’t have taken to the streets,” he reiterated, underscoring why he characterizes the situation as the “Jungle Raj of officers.”
Kishor also criticized the lack of presence from elected representatives, including local MLAs and MPs, who he claimed have failed to visit the victim's family.
“Why would MLAs or MPs come when they continue to get votes regardless? When elections arise, they will once again divide the populace along Hindu-Muslim and caste lines. People will forget the grief of their children and vote based on Narendra Modi, Nitish Kumar, or Lalu Prasad Yadav,” he stated.
He asserted that the Jan Suraaj movement has been warning citizens for the past three years that without prioritizing children’s safety, education, and employment, Bihar’s future will remain perilous.
Kishor demanded that the government stop taking punitive actions against over 30 individuals reportedly evading arrest in connection with the protests and instead ensure that those truly responsible for the crime are punished swiftly in accordance with the law.
He criticized the administration's response to public outcry as reflecting an insensitive attitude and further exacerbating public insecurity in the state.
