L-G Provides 57 Job Letters to Survivors of 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots, Earning Praise

New Delhi, Jan 6 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, V K Saxena, distributed 57 appointment letters on Monday to the survivors of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and their relatives in the Tilak Vihar locality.

This initiative to offer governmental jobs brought joy to the victims of the 1984 riots, who expressed that this gesture would provide a measure of closure to the trauma they have endured for 40 years.

Following the distribution of appointment letters, the L-G remarked that while the wounds from 40 years ago may never fully heal, such initiatives could significantly assist in reintegrating affected families into society.

He also emphasized that for the first time, a 55-year-old individual was receiving a government job.

In total, 88 individuals were shortlisted for government positions, of which 57 were given appointment letters on Monday, with the remaining beneficiaries to be accommodated in the future.

Earlier that day, Raj Niwas announced via X that VK Saxena had relaxed educational qualifications and age restrictions for family members of the 1984 Sikh riot victims, thereby enabling 88 applicants to seek government employment. This marks a significant stride towards justice and rehabilitation for the families affected.

Delhi Pradesh BJP President Virendra Sachdeva, along with MP Kamaljit Sehrawat, Chief Secretary of Delhi Government Dharmendra Kumar, and Divisional Commissioner of the Revenue Department, were also present during this event.

Numerous recipients from Mata Gujri Devi Colony in Tilak Nagar shared their gratitude to IANS upon receiving their appointment letters.

One female beneficiary remarked, “A total of 103 individuals have received recruitment letters in two batches. The memories of the 1984 riots may never fade, but this will provide immense comfort for those struggling financially.”

She added, “We are incredibly grateful to the L-G for this initiative. He made it clear that no one is bound to follow external directives, as the city government has assumed complete responsibility for this project.”

Kulwant Kaur expressed her approval to IANS, stating, “This marks a positive development. We have long been denied what is rightfully ours, and now a healing process can commence. Although we cannot forget the harrowing days of violence and suffering, I appreciate the government's efforts in extending these benefits to us.”

Pradeep Singh commented, “This was long overdue, but if the government has initiated this, it is a commendable and welcome action. These appointments will enable our community to contribute to the nation’s development.”

Honey Singh expressed his happiness, saying, “Receiving the appointment letter is monumental after 40 years. Justice is finally being served after such a lengthy wait. We are thankful to the government.”
