Ranchi, Sep 22 (NationPress) The Ranchi District Court delivered a significant verdict on Monday, sentencing three individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in the shocking murder of Kamal Bhushan, a well-known builder and land trader.
The court, presided over by Additional Judge Anand Prakash, found Rahul Kujur, his father W. Kujur, and their associate Kavish Adnan guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
Conversely, two other defendants, Sushila Kujur, Rahul's mother, and approver Munawar Afaq, were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
The murder occurred on May 30, 2022, when the 55-year-old Kamal Bhushan was fatally shot in broad daylight near his home in the bustling Ratu Road area of Ranchi.
This incident sent shockwaves through the city, considering Bhushan's reputation as a prominent businessman with significant influence in the real estate industry.
Investigations indicated that the motive stemmed from a tumultuous family dispute. Bhushan's daughter had wed Rahul Kujur against her father's consent, which escalated tensions between them. Additionally, conflicts over property and financial issues further exacerbated the situation.
The police reported that Rahul was not only eager to gain control over his wife's family wealth but also feared potential harm from his powerful father-in-law, which allegedly compelled him to plot Bhushan's murder.
The charge sheet revealed that Rahul, with the assistance of his close associate Kavish Adnan, orchestrated the murder. On the day of the crime, W. Kujur monitored Bhushan's movements. As Bhushan exited his residence, Rahul and Kavish attacked him and shot him dead.
Afterward, the trio returned to their home in the Ratu police station's vicinity, concealing the weapons used in the assassination.
Authorities apprehended five individuals in connection with the murder: Rahul Kujur, W. Kujur, Kavish Adnan, Sushila Kujur, and Munawar Afaq. While the first three were convicted, the court found no substantial evidence against Sushila and Munawar, resulting in their acquittal.
Upon the arrests, then Ranchi SSP Surendra Kumar Jha stated that the murder was primarily motivated by financial disagreements and Bhushan's disapproval of his daughter's marriage to Rahul.
