Indore, June 10 (NationPress) The sorrowful family of Raja Raghuvanshi, a victim of the heinous honeymoon murder in Meghalaya, is demanding the most severe punishment for the individuals involved, including his spouse, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged accomplice, Raj Kushwaha. They believe that only capital punishment can provide justice for this brutal act.
In an interview with IANS, Raja’s mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, voiced her profound grief and insisted on stringent legal actions.
"The motives behind this tragedy have been revealed. Raja deserves justice, and those accountable must face the harshest penalties. My only plea is for them to be hanged if that is feasible," she expressed to IANS.
Reflecting on Sonam’s presence in their family, Uma stated: "We never questioned her motives. We were thrilled for Raja and overlooked her past and intentions. No one could have foreseen that she would resort to such extremes to have him killed. Had we sensed any danger, we would have never permitted the marriage."
"They must be punished severely. They have stained the nation’s reputation and disgraced society. What they did to my son was utterly horrifying. The injuries inflicted were so severe that witnessing his body ten days later was unbearable. They must face the repercussions of their actions."
Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, shared similar sentiments, urging law enforcement and the government to take decisive measures.
"Our sole demand is for the government to ensure that all those implicated, especially Sonam and her accomplices, are brought to justice and executed. Sonam has already identified those responsible, and swift action must follow," Vipin stated.
He also called on the citizens and legal representatives of Meghalaya, saying: "We plead with the people of Meghalaya, whose economy relies heavily on tourism, to support our quest for justice. Furthermore, we request that no lawyer in the state should represent Sonam. Just as Meghalaya has drawn attention due to this case, we want justice for Raja to receive equal prominence."
Meanwhile, Sonam Raghuvanshi’s father has come forward in her defense. On Monday, he adamantly claimed that his daughter is innocent and accused the Meghalaya Police of framing her to cover up their investigative failures. Sonam, who had been missing since her husband’s body was found in a gorge in Meghalaya, turned herself in at the Nandganj police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district early Monday morning.
In a related development, the family of Raj Kushwaha, the alleged mastermind behind the murder, has also defended him, asserting that he is innocent and has been wrongly implicated. According to his family, Kushwaha, the family’s sole provider, had only a professional association with Sonam and could not have committed such a crime. Kushwaha’s mother stated to reporters, "My son is innocent. The police are lying. He never had any relationship with Sonam other than work. He is the main support for his sisters and works tirelessly. I cannot believe these accusations against him."
