Visakhapatnam, April 24 (NationPress) The mortal remains of Somishetty Madhusudhan Rao, one of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, arrived in his hometown Kavali, located in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district, on Thursday.
The 42-year-old software engineer had been residing in Bengaluru and was among the 26 tourists who lost their lives in the terrorist assault in Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday.
Madhusudhan's body was flown to Chennai Airport on Wednesday night and subsequently transported to Kavali by road.
His parents, Tirupal and Padmvathi, were devastated upon seeing their son's body, as they had been misinformed about his condition, believing he had sustained injuries in the attack.
Madhusudhan was the only son of Tirupal and Padmavathi, who run a banana business in the town.
He had been living in Bengaluru for the past 12 years and was on a vacation in Kashmir with his wife Kamakshi, daughter, and son.
Madhusudhan was one of two individuals from Andhra Pradesh who perished in the attack.
J.S. Chandramouli, a retired bank employee from Visakhapatnam, was also a victim of the gunfire.
On Wednesday night, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu received Chandramouli's remains at Visakhapatnam Airport.
The Chief Minister paid his respects with floral tributes and offered condolences to the grieving family.
Accompanied by Union Minister for Civil Aviation K. Rammohan Naidu, State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, and Visakhapatnam MP Sribharat, the Chief Minister walked alongside the funeral procession, joining in chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.
While addressing the media, CM Naidu condemned the attack vehemently, emphasizing the importance of national unity against such threats. He noted that eyewitnesses reported that Chandramouli had attempted to escape before being shot, labeling the incident as a deliberate and organized act of terrorism.
"This is not merely an attack on individuals but a direct assault on India's integrity and peace," expressed the Chief Minister. He highlighted that India had recently conducted peaceful elections and witnessed an increase in employment opportunities, particularly in Kashmir, making such violent acts even more atrocious.
Reaffirming the state's dedication to national security, CM Naidu declared an ex gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of both martyrs from Andhra Pradesh—Chandramouli and IT professional Madhusudan from Kavali.
