Madhya Pradesh Government's Pledge to Address Defunct Mill Workers' Concerns, Asserts CM Yadav

Bhopal, Jan 1 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav of Madhya Pradesh has declared that his administration is committed to addressing the problems experienced by defunct mill workers, ensuring the payment of their overdue wages.
The Chief Minister stated that workers from the now-defunct mills would be compensated for their outstanding dues along with interest from the time of their employment.
He further noted that the state government has initiated procedures to mediate between the workers and mill proprietors.
"Our government is making every effort to resolve the challenges posed by defunct mills and to settle all outstanding payments to workers. The concerns of three defunct mills have already been addressed, and initiatives for others will follow," CM Yadav affirmed during an event in Ujjain on Monday.
Moreover, he mentioned that the situation concerning the defunct Jiyajirao Cotton Mills (JC Mills) in Gwalior would be resolved shortly, with over 8,000 workers set to receive their overdue payments along with interest.
After inspecting the JC Mills in Gwalior last month, Chief Minister Yadav indicated that the state administration would approach the High Court to seek justice for the more than 8,000 workers of JC Mill, which has been closed for the past 30 to 40 years.
In December 2023, the state government allocated Rs 464 crore for the workers of Hukumchand Mills in Indore.
This funding was approved following the Madhya Pradesh High Court's directives.
Hukumchand Mill, one of Indore's largest mills, was shuttered by its management in 1991 without prior notice, affecting approximately 6,000 workers at that time. These individuals have endured a prolonged struggle for their unpaid wages, gratuity, and other entitlements.
Over the past 33 years, more than 2,000 of the original 6,000 workers have passed away, with many of their families continuing to advocate for their rights.
