Madhya Pradesh's Ladli Behna Yojana to Persist Despite Economic Strain: CM Yadav

Bhopal, Dec 12 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Thursday that the BJP-led state administration will maintain the Ladli Behna Yojana in the region, even while acknowledging that this women-focused initiative has imposed a financial burden on the state's fiscal framework.

During a press briefing, Chief Minister Yadav emphasized the accomplishments and measures undertaken to bolster the financial stability of the Madhya Pradesh government throughout the previous year under his stewardship.

He noted that when the program was first initiated, many believed it would not endure for long. Nonetheless, the state government has consistently ensured that every installment of the program is deposited on time without any setbacks, a feat made possible by improvements in the state's financial standing.

"We recognize that the Ladli Behna Yojana has indeed imposed an additional financial strain on the government; however, we have simultaneously enhanced our revenue streams during this timeframe. The Ladli Behna Yojana will proceed," CM Yadav declared.

The Ladli Behna Yojana was introduced by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in June 2023, shortly before the state Assembly elections.

This initiative significantly contributed to the BJP's remarkable success in the 2023 Assembly elections, resulting in a two percent increase in voter turnout among women in the state.

Through this scheme, the state government provides eligible women with financial assistance of Rs 1,250 per month under specific conditions.

The scheme aims to empower women financially, promote self-reliance, and enhance the health and nutritional well-being of their dependent children via monetary support.

The model of this welfare initiative has been emulated by several other state governments. However, reports indicate that the Ladli Behna Yojana imposes a staggering Rs 19,000 crore financial burden on the already cash-strapped government.
