Mumbai, April 14 (NationPress) The Governor of Maharashtra, Jishnu Dev Varma, remarked on Tuesday that the Constitution serves as more than merely a legal framework; it is a formidable tool for social transformation.
He elaborated that the philosophies of Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar have offered dignity, equal opportunities, and a pathway to justice for marginalized communities.
This statement was made during the celebration of Dr. Ambedkar’s 135th Birth Anniversary at Chaityabhoomi, Dadar, where he paid floral respects to the Creator of the Indian Constitution. The commemorative event featured a helicopter dropping flowers over the memorial and multiple speeches that underscored Dr. Ambedkar’s diverse contributions.
The Governor emphasized Dr. Ambedkar’s groundbreaking achievements in advancing women's rights, highlighting his role in securing equal voting rights and personal liberties for women since the establishment of the Republic of India. As the centenary of the Mahad Chavdar Tale Satyagraha commences, he called on citizens to commit to fostering a society devoid of casteism and prejudice.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis underscored Dr. Ambedkar’s significant influence on both the national and global economies. The CM pointed out that Ambedkar’s studies at the London School of Economics highlighted the necessity for a central banking system, which eventually led to the creation of the Reserve Bank of India.
“His academic work, 'The Problem of the Rupee', established the groundwork for India’s economic framework. Today, his insights on currency purchasing power and the 'Gold Standard' continue to be relevant on the global stage,” stated CM Fadnavis.
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde referred to Dr. Ambedkar as the 'Architect of Humanity', asserting that the Constitution embodies our 'Rashtradharma' (National Religion). He assured that the memorial under construction at Indu Mill is progressing swiftly and will act as a source of inspiration for future generations.
Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar supported these views, describing Chaityabhoomi as an 'energy center' of ideas. She stressed that a genuine tribute to Dr. Ambedkar is advancing with his vision of equality and fraternity to foster rapid and inclusive growth for the nation.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, Ashish Shelar, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Sanjay Rathod, Sanjay Shirsat, and Deputy Speaker Anna Bansode.
A book titled 'Samajnayak Sanjay Shirsat', encapsulating the one-year report of Social Justice Minister Sanjay Shirsat's activities, was unveiled by the attendees.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma also offered 'Chivardan' (ritual offering of robes) to Buddhist monks. Participants explored a photo exhibition organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
