Kolkata, March 22 (NationPress) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal stated that she will oversee the developments in the state from the UK for the upcoming days before her departure to London on Saturday evening. "I will not be in the state for the next four to five days. However, I will maintain constant communication with the local administration. We will ensure that no issues arise, and I urge everyone in the state to remain peaceful," the Chief Minister informed reporters upon arriving at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport.
She and her entourage will have a layover in Dubai late at night before continuing their journey to London. They are anticipated to arrive in London by Sunday afternoon, according to Indian time.
While addressing the media, Banerjee expressed her concerns regarding the lengthy journey, which includes the layover in Dubai. "This is the issue due to the absence of direct flights between Kolkata and London. Consequently, this trip will be quite exhausting, as the travel time is considerable. Nevertheless, everything is acceptable, and the scheduled events will proceed as planned. I once again appeal to the citizens of the state to stay calm and safe," she added.
The Chief Minister has a busy agenda in London starting Monday. On March 24, she is scheduled to attend an event organized by the Indian High Commission in London.
Following that, on March 25, she is set to meet with local business leaders during a business gathering. On March 26, a “Government-to-Business (G2B)” meeting will occur. On March 27, the Chief Minister will deliver a lecture at a college affiliated with Oxford University.
She plans to return to Kolkata from London on March 28.
Mamata Banerjee was previously invited to the UK in 2021 to give a lecture at Oxford University, but the Trinamool Congress claimed that the event was cancelled due to covert actions by the Central government.
Additionally, Banerjee visited the UK in 2015, accompanied by several cabinet members, including the then state Finance Minister Amit Mitra, who currently serves as the Chief Economic Advisor to the Chief Minister.
