Mamata Banerjee Mourns the Passing of Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Kolkata, Dec 26 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, who held the position of Railway Minister during the second term of the Congress-led UPA government under former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, has conveyed her condolences following the passing of the esteemed Congress leader.
In a statement released on Friday evening, shortly after the announcement of Manmohan Singh's demise, Banerjee expressed that she is "deeply shocked and saddened by the unexpected loss of our former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh".
"Having worked closely with him in the Union Cabinet, I witnessed his profound intellect and wisdom. The significance of the financial reforms he championed in our nation is widely recognized," Banerjee's statement remarked.
She further noted that while the nation will significantly feel the absence of Manmohan Singh's leadership, she will personally miss his warmth.
"I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and supporters," the Chief Minister concluded.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the passing of former PM Manmohan Singh, who died at the age of 92 at the AIIMS.
In a post on X, PM Modi stated: "India mourns the loss of one of its most remarkable leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from humble beginnings, he became a celebrated economist. He held various governmental roles, including that of Finance Minister, profoundly influencing our economic policies over the years. His contributions in Parliament were also noteworthy. As Prime Minister, he made significant efforts to enhance the lives of citizens. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, an esteemed economist and the architect of India’s economic reforms, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He had been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) due to a decline in his health.
The AIIMS confirmed the news of Singh’s passing in a statement that read: "With great sorrow, we announce the death of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He was undergoing treatment for age-related health issues and experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at home on December 26. Immediate resuscitative measures were initiated at home, and he was transported to the medical emergency at AIIMS. Despite all attempts, he could not be revived and was declared deceased at 9:51 p.m."
Singh had been hospitalized on Thursday evening after becoming critically unwell.
Serving as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Singh was celebrated for his pivotal role in guiding India’s economy through a significant liberalization phase.
His tenure is frequently credited with initiating major economic reforms in 1991 during his time as Finance Minister, which modernized India’s economy and integrated it into the global market.
A figure of humility and intellect, Dr. Singh was respected both domestically and internationally. Under his guidance, India experienced sustained economic growth, poverty reduction, and an enhanced global standing.
His administration was also recognized for enacting essential legislation in sectors such as education, food security, and information.
The nation is now in mourning following Singh’s death, with leaders from all political factions and around the world paying homage to his enduring legacy. His impact on economics and public service will be cherished for generations to come.
