Kolkata, Dec 11 (NationPress) West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee vehemently criticized the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday for its current Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in the state. She asserted that the Commission is attempting to create the voters' list under the influence of the Information Technology (IT) Cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"Their intention is to remove 1.5 crore voters from the list. I will stage a sit-in protest if even one voter's name is taken off. My protest will persist until the names of those deleted voters are reinstated. The BJP is trying to manipulate the SIR for its advantage. The Commission seems to be working with a list devised by the BJP's IT cell. They may have succeeded in Bihar, but they won’t in West Bengal," she remarked while addressing an anti-SIR rally in Krishnanagar, located in Nadia district.
During her address, Chief Minister Banerjee also aimed her criticism at Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
"We have a Union Home Minister in India, who poses a significant threat and can do anything. His gaze reflects his danger. One eye represents Duryodhana, and the other signifies Dushasana," she stated.
While speaking at the rally, Chief Minister Banerjee warned that there could be attempts to sway voters before the upcoming Assembly elections next year by offering bribes.
"The BJP has a history of using money to divide voters ahead of elections. Don’t fall for their tactics," she urged.
Addressing a recent incident, where three individuals were arrested for harassing and assaulting two vendors selling chicken patties during a Bhagavad Gita recital in Kolkata, CM Banerjee emphasized that anyone engaging in such behavior will face consequences in Bengal.
"This is West Bengal, not Uttar Pradesh," she concluded.
