Mamata Banerjee Warns of Forced Vegetarianism if BJP Wins Bengal Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, April 8 (NationPress) The upcoming two-phase Assembly elections in West Bengal later this month present a significant challenge not only for the Trinamool Congress but also for the general populace of West Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee asserted on Wednesday that the people will be compelled to adopt a vegetarian diet if the BJP secures power in the state following these elections.
"We must win this battle at all costs. Otherwise, the consumption of non-vegetarian foods such as eggs, meat, and fish will be prohibited in West Bengal. This would lead our future generations into darkness. So, please vote wisely. Do not permit the BJP to gain any foothold here," said Chief Minister Banerjee during a campaign rally at Sreerampore in the Hooghly district.
In discussing the renewed actions of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the state, she remarked that these central agencies have been selectively deployed to intimidate Trinamool Congress leaders ahead of the elections.
"Have you ever observed the CBI or ED pursuing any CPI(M) leaders? This is because CPI(M) has aligned itself with the BJP. Why are these central agencies consistently targeting us? They recognize that the citizens of West Bengal stand with us, and we refuse to accept defeat easily," the Chief Minister stated.
She noted that the supply of cooking gas has been maintained smoothly in West Bengal with the upcoming Assembly elections in mind. “However, all these conveniences will vanish once the elections are concluded. The BJP is poised to devastate the entire country,” she warned.
During her speech, she also acknowledged that her personal electoral contest from the Bhabanipur Assembly constituency in South Kolkata might be somewhat challenging due to a significant reduction in the number of voters in her area.
"I submitted my nomination from Bhabanipur today. They have removed numerous names from the electoral list there. But I am not concerned. I remain with the residents of Bhabanipur every single day of the year. I reside in Bhabanipur. I trust the voters there," the Chief Minister expressed.
In related news, the Trinamool Congress released a list of star campaigners for the second phase of the elections in West Bengal, set for April 29. The list included the same names as those for the first phase on April 23, with Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee at the top.
