Imphal, Feb 8 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, has urged officials from relevant departments to accelerate the ongoing development projects in a timely manner, according to reports.
On Sunday, the Chief Minister conducted a visit to Thangal Bazar, one of the most bustling commercial areas in Imphal, to assess the advancement of road construction and renovation activities underway in the market.
Accompanying Singh during the visit were MLAs Khumukcham Joykisan and Nishikant Sapam, along with representatives from the Public Works Department, the Municipal Administration, Housing and Urban Development (MAHUD) Department, and the Imphal Municipal Corporation.
During his interaction with the officials, the Chief Minister emphasized the necessity of hastening the projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and beautifying the market district, underlining the importance of finishing these initiatives within the designated timelines.
Located in the core of Imphal, Thangal Bazar serves as a significant commercial hub.
In 1957, it was renamed in honor of Manipuri freedom fighter Thangal General and has since been recognized for its vibrant trade, ethnic clothing markets, and proximity to important sites, including the Manipur State Museum.
Since taking office on Wednesday, Chief Minister Singh has been actively convening meetings with ministers and senior officials to expedite developmental efforts throughout the state.
On Saturday, he led a high-level review meeting focused on the state's economic recovery, particularly promoting the Integrated Farming System (IFS).
An official from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) revealed that Singh instructed relevant authorities to promote alternative crop cultivation and related activities, especially in the hill districts.
The meeting also explored the export potential of Manipur's agricultural and horticultural products, aiming to bolster the state’s economy through integrated farming methodologies.
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Additional Chief Secretary Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Commissioner to the Chief Minister N. Ashok Kumar, Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation K. Devdutta Sharma, and Agriculture Director Peter Salam were among those present during the review meeting.
Additionally, the Chief Minister met with leaders from the Naga Hill regions of Tamenglong and Noney districts, led by S. Kamei and L. Kamei, to discuss infrastructure-driven development and expressed gratitude for their support, the official noted.
