Guwahati, Dec 26 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Friday that the individuals responsible for the vandalism at St. Mary’s English School in the Panigaon area of Nalbari district have been apprehended. “In relation to the vandalism at St. Mary’s English School, located in Panigaon under the Belsor Police Station, the involved miscreants have been arrested. The Assam Police responded swiftly, and further action will be enforced in accordance with the law,” stated the Chief Minister in a post on the social media platform X, highlighting the government’s unwavering stance against any effort to disrupt communal peace.

The incident transpired on Thursday afternoon when a group reportedly entered the school grounds and damaged Christmas decorations.

A formal complaint was filed by the school’s Principal, Fr. Baiju Sebastian, indicating that the intruders unlawfully accessed the campus around 2:30 p.m. and vandalized serial lights, decorative items, plant pots, and more. Some Christmas decorations were also allegedly ignited, causing damage to school property.

In response to the complaint, Belsor Police Station initiated a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and commenced an investigation. Sub-Inspector Chanakya Das has been designated to oversee the inquiry, as per official statements.

Police have detained four individuals linked to the event. They are identified as Bhaskar Deka (34), district secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP); Manash Jyoti Patgiri (32), vice-president of the VHP; Biju Dutta (34), assistant secretary of the VHP; and Nayan Talukdar (37), district convenor of the Bajrang Dal.

All suspects are residents of Nalbari district.
