Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation development projects worth over ₹17,900 crore during his visit to Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, 31 July. The programme is anchored at the inauguration of the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district, and spans infrastructure ranging from semiconductors to renewable energy transmission and national highways.

Andhra Pradesh's First Semiconductor Facility

Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stone for the ASIP Semiconductor Project at Visakhapatnam, backed by an investment of over ₹460 crore. The facility is being developed by ASIP Technologies Pvt Ltd in collaboration with APACT, Republic of Korea, and is Andhra Pradesh's first semiconductor manufacturing unit approved under the India Semiconductor Mission.

According to an official release, the plant will produce around 96 million semiconductor chips annually, generate high-skilled employment, and help build an ancillary ecosystem supporting domestic chip manufacturing. This comes amid India's broader push to reduce reliance on imported semiconductors and establish itself as a credible node in the global supply chain.

Renewable Energy Transmission Projects

A significant portion of the outlay is directed at strengthening Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy grid. Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Transmission System for Integration of Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) – Phase-I (4.5 GW), implemented by POWERGRID through a Special Purpose Vehicle at a cost of approximately ₹5,550 crore.

He will also inaugurate the Transmission System for Kurnool Wind Energy Zone/Solar Energy Zone – Part A and Part B, developed at a cost of around ₹3,550 crore, and the Transmission Scheme for Solar Energy Zones in Ananthapuram (2,500 MW) and Kurnool (1,000 MW), implemented by POWERGRID at over ₹820 crore.

These projects will facilitate evacuation of renewable power from the Kurnool and Ananthapuram zones to beneficiaries across the country via the National Grid, and are expected to reduce dependence on fossil fuel-based generation, according to the official release.

National Highway Projects Worth ₹1,880 Crore

Modi will dedicate and lay foundation stones for National Highway projects valued at over ₹1,880 crore. Projects being inaugurated include the four-lane access-controlled Greenfield highway covering the Recherla to Guruvaygudem section of NH-365BG and the Guruvaygudem to Devarapalle section of NH-365BG, as well as the four-lane Tadipatri Bypass on NH-67.

Additionally, the foundation stone for a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on the Penchalakona–Yerpedu section of NH-565 will be laid. These projects are designed to ease congestion in Vijayawada and surrounding cities, improve road safety, and cut travel time between Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad.

Significance for Andhra Pradesh

The scale of the investment — spanning airport infrastructure, semiconductor manufacturing, clean energy, and highway connectivity — marks one of the larger single-visit project dedications for Andhra Pradesh in recent years. Notably, the semiconductor project dovetails with the Centre's India Semiconductor Mission, which has been accelerating approvals across states to build domestic chip capacity. The renewable energy transmission additions are also directly aligned with India's target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

With the Bhogapuram airport inauguration as the centrepiece, Saturday's event is expected to signal continued federal investment in the state's infrastructure ambitions as Andhra Pradesh pushes to attract industrial and logistics investment.
