Imphal, Jan 21 (NationPress) On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that since 2014, his administration has been dedicated to the principle of 'Act East, Act Fast' to empower the Northeastern region, create development avenues, and meet the aspirations of its residents.

In a letter addressed to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Manipur's Statehood Day, the Prime Minister expressed his unwavering belief in the vast potential of the Northeast's populace and reiterated the Centre's commitment to their comprehensive growth and prosperity.

He remarked: “I salute my sisters and brothers of Manipur for their extraordinary bravery and steadfast commitment to peace and advancement.”

The Prime Minister stressed the necessity of continuing to work with renewed energy to enhance Manipur's development path, assuring complete and unwavering support from the Centre in this initiative.

PM Modi highlighted that Manipur's rich artistic heritage and remarkable sporting culture reflect the strength, discipline, and determination of its youth on the world stage. He also noted the people's respect for nature, emphasis on women's empowerment, and dedication to sustainable living—values that impart significant lessons in today's context. This moment offers a chance to recognize the invaluable efforts of Manipur's people towards nation-building, he remarked.

He acknowledged Manipur's esteemed position in the freedom struggle, recalling that it was here that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Azad Hind Fauj first raised the Tricolour.

Numerous courageous individuals from Manipur participated in the freedom movement, with some sacrificing their lives for the nation, he pointed out.

As a lasting homage to these sacrifices, the Prime Minister noted that Mount Harriet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was renamed Mount Manipur, a lasting emblem of national pride.

Reflecting on his visit to Manipur on September 13 last year, he shared how he was profoundly touched by the warmth expressed by the residents of Churachandpur and Imphal, who came out in large numbers despite adverse weather conditions.

During his September visit, key development projects worth billions of rupees were inaugurated, and foundation stones for several initiatives were laid for the state of Manipur.

In his correspondence, PM Modi reaffirmed his government's steadfast commitment to stand by the people of Manipur and to support all efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace and sustained progress.

He also mentioned President Droupadi Murmu's visit to Imphal and Senapati in December, which resonated profoundly with the populace.

Over the years, the Prime Minister noted, Manipur has experienced accelerated growth across various sectors, with increased Central assistance since 2014.

“Flagship programs like PM-KISAN, Jan Dhan Yojana, and Ayushman Bharat have significantly improved livelihoods and the overall quality of life for the people. Connectivity is a crucial aspect of our development strategy,” he stated.

He further highlighted the ongoing efforts to connect Imphal with the national rail network, the development of Imphal airport, and the construction of highways and rural roads, ushering in a significant transformation in infrastructure.

There is also a strong emphasis on enhancing healthcare and educational systems, with a particular focus on skill development, innovation, and women's empowerment, he added.

Recognizing Manipur’s international success in sports and its production of outstanding athletes, the Prime Minister expressed pride that the nation’s first National Sports University was established in the state.

He noted that modern sports infrastructure is being developed through various initiatives, expressing confidence that the talented youth of Manipur will continue to bring glory to the nation in the coming years.

Praising the Governor's diligent work, PM Modi commended his sincere efforts to understand the state, engage with its residents, and accelerate the pace of development.
