Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Madurai, March 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a two-day tour of Tamil Nadu, inaugurated several key infrastructure projects in Madurai and launched a pointed political critique against the ruling DMK during a significant NDA campaign rally in the region.
Earlier in the day, while unveiling development initiatives, the Prime Minister declared that sites of historical importance in Tamil Nadu, including Adichanallur, would be transformed into world heritage sites. He emphasized the Centre's dedication to safeguarding Tamil civilization and enhancing its global visibility.
Following the event, Prime Minister Modi visited the renowned Tirupparankundram Murugan Temple, where he offered his prayers, expressing his hopes for the progress of both Tamil Nadu and the nation as a whole.
He reminisced about the tragic incident involving a young devotee, Puran Chandran, who sadly lost his life while lighting a lamp at the temple. The Prime Minister conveyed his condolences to the grieving family, stating, “I prayed to Lord Murugan for eternal peace for his soul,” and claimed that this incident was indicative of the injustices under the DMK administration.
“The DMK can act as it wishes, but ultimately, the truth will come out. Murugan will prevail,” he proclaimed.
At the NDA rally in Mandela Nagar, Madurai district, Modi kicked off his address with chants of “Vetri Vel… Vetri Vel… Vetri Vel,” invoking the blessings of Lord Murugan amid enthusiastic cheers from party supporters.
Shifting to political matters, he asserted that the forthcoming Assembly elections would serve as a crucial turning point for Tamil Nadu.
“Some are fantasizing about returning to power, but witnessing this enormous turnout, their aspirations will fade like an illusion. The people have decided to displace the DMK and elevate the NDA,” he stated.
He criticized the DMK's governance, noting that despite winning a full majority in 2021 after a 25-year gap, they have failed to deliver effective administration. He accused the DMK-Congress alliance of obstructing vital projects like the Maduravoyal flyover and the Tuticorin port shipping channel before 2014, claiming these initiatives were revived only after the NDA took charge at the Centre.
Furthermore, Modi alleged a surge in crimes against women in Tamil Nadu, promising that law and order would improve with NDA governance.
In response to a comment from a DMK leader asserting they were “not afraid” of him or his father, Modi remarked, “In a democracy, no one needs to be fearful. When someone claims they are not afraid of me, it signifies their respect for my commitment to democracy. Unknowingly, they are giving me a certificate of appreciation.”
Notable attendees at the rally included AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran, and Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran, along with other leaders from the NDA.
