New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Residents of Munirka village, located within the RK Puram Assembly constituency, have been grappling with drainage issues for over a decade. Unfortunately, none of the local elected officials, including the councillor and legislator, have addressed these ongoing challenges.
As Delhi prepares for the upcoming Assembly elections, voters from Munirka expressed their ongoing struggles with overflowing drains during conversations with IANS.
The current MLA, Parmila Tokas, has been nominated by the Aam Aadmi Party for a third consecutive term.
Accumulated dirty sewer water on roads poses significant challenges for school children and commuters, while local shopkeepers also experience considerable difficulties.
Numerous residents reported that the local legislator has made no efforts to resolve these sewer issues.
An elderly woman lamented, "We are facing substantial difficulties due to the damaged sewer. I fall every day. The government must take action to repair the roads and drains here."
“Clogged drains create major issues for all of us living in this area. We are compelled to clean them ourselves. Our repeated pleas to the administration are ignored. The legislator does not respond to our grievances, leaving us to shoulder the cleaning costs,” said another local.
Another resident remarked, "Sewage water has been flowing here for the past week. Despite being a local, the MLA has failed to take any action."
A woman pointed out the drain water on the streets, emphasizing that residents are enduring hardship due to the overflowing drains.
"The situation is critical. Children must navigate through sewage water in the mornings, and our relatives have stopped visiting us," she added.
Another woman mentioned, "Sewage has been running down the road for a week, and it has even entered our home. Only we know the struggles of our daily lives."
Meanwhile, the elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8.
