Kolkata, Aug 14 (NationPress) Tensions flared in the Singur region of West Bengal's Hooghly district after the body of a nurse was discovered under mysterious circumstances within a hospital.
The deceased, identified as Deepali Jana, a trainee nurse from Nandigram in East Midnapore district, was found hanging from the ceiling in a room at a private nursing home late Wednesday night.
Deepali had only recently started her position at the nursing home, having completed her General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) diploma from a nursing institute in Bengaluru last year.
According to law enforcement officials, the body was discovered on the third floor by nursing home staff, who promptly alerted local authorities.
The police have since recovered the body and initiated a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death and begun an investigation. We await the autopsy report to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death,” stated a senior officer from the Hooghly district police.
Despite this, Deepali's family contends that she was murdered, insisting that suicide was not an option for her.
The family has lodged a formal murder complaint against the nursing home's owner and its management.
Local residents, angered by the suspicious nature of the incident, surrounded police officers and staged protests. The parents of the deceased took to the streets, demanding justice.
The mother of Deepali expressed her anguish, saying, “I am at a loss. My daughter came here for training, she was healthy and kind. I cannot fathom this tragedy. The police must uncover the truth behind her death. She was murdered, and we seek justice for her.”
This incident follows closely after the first anniversary of the RG Kar rape-murder case that shocked the state.
