Kolkata, Aug 16 (NationPress) The remains of a trainee nurse, discovered in a private hospital located in Singur, Hooghly district three days ago, were transported to AIIMS Kalyani for an autopsy on Saturday morning.
The decision to move the body to a central medical facility was made after her parents expressed their distrust in a state-run medical college for the examination.
On Friday, the body had been taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital for the autopsy.
However, chaos ensued as BJP and CPI(M) supporters clashed over the location of the autopsy. CPI(M) members insisted on the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, while BJP representatives claimed that conducting the procedure in a state facility could lead to suppression of vital information regarding the cause of death.
The altercation resulted in the autopsy being postponed, and the body was stored in the hospital morgue.
After the family insisted on utilizing a central medical institute for the examination, the body was sent to AIIMS Kalyani, where the procedure will be recorded and conducted in the presence of a magistrate.
"We lack confidence in having the autopsy performed at a state-run facility. We believe our daughter was murdered, and the truth surrounding her death must be uncovered," stated the mother of the deceased nurse. She also claimed that the body was transported to Kolkata against their wishes.
The body of the trainee nurse, identified as Deepali Jana, was retrieved from a private nursing home on Wednesday night. She was a resident of Nandigram in East Midnapore. Her body was discovered hanging from the ceiling within a room at the nursing home.
Remarkably, she had only started her position at the nursing home three days prior. Deepali had completed her General Nursing Midwifery (GNM) three-year diploma course from a nursing institute in Bangalore last year. The incident has led to a case of unnatural death being filed with the Hooghly Police.
The family, however, believes their daughter was murdered and has lodged a murder complaint against the nursing home owner. Following this, police apprehended two individuals in relation to the case.
The arrested suspects are Subir Ghora, the nursing home owner, and Radhagovinda Ghatan, the deceased's lover. Initial investigations indicated that Deepali was in a relationship with Radhagovinda, who resides in the Egra area of East Midnapore.
Deepali was reported to be mentally distressed after Radhagovinda declined to marry her and there are accusations that the nursing home owner had behaved inappropriately towards her.
