Hyderabad, Dec 9 (NationPress) Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy asserted on Tuesday that the TDP-led coalition government fabricated economic figures to mislead the public into thinking that the state’s economy is thriving.

The President of YSR Congress Party responded to the advance estimates for the GSDP released during the initial half of the financial year 2025-26 by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

In a post on X, Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the government created these figures under the guidance of Chandrababu Naidu with the intent to deceive.

He emphasized that while the government may manipulate advance estimates of GSDP, it cannot distort the state government accounts audited by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India.

The fiscal performance is evident from the state accounts published by the CAG, which are compiled from the actual receipts and expenditures of the state government, independent of Chandrababu Naidu’s influence, he stated.

“The economic truth reflected by the accounts for the first half of this financial year, as released by the CAG, indicates that the state is grappling with significantly low growth in government revenues, unprecedented levels of government borrowings, alarmingly low capital expenditures, minimal consumption, and investment in the economy, alongside troubling revenue and fiscal deficits. Moreover, rampant corruption is evident as state revenues are being misappropriated,” the Chief Minister expressed.

“While this is the reality, the TDP alliance government seeks to mislead the populace into believing that the state’s economy is flourishing. I would like to remind Chandrababu Naidu of the words of the esteemed Abraham Lincoln, 'You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.'

YSRCP chief challenged Chandrababu Naidu on why, if the state’s economy is truly thriving, the government is experiencing such fiscal stress.

“If the GSDP growth during your government’s tenure from 2014-19 was commendable, why is the state’s contribution to the national GDP only 4.45% as opposed to 4.78% during 2019-24? If the state’s economy performed so well during your term, why has there been no improvement in the state’s per-capita income ranking?” queried Jagan Mohan Reddy.
