New Delhi, Feb 15 (NationPress) A remarkable evening of classical music unfolded on Saturday as diplomats, middle-class individuals, government representatives, and students gathered for the New Delhi Municipal Council's (NDMC) “Music in the Park” concert series 2025.

This engaging event was hosted in collaboration with SPIC MACAY and the SRF Foundation, taking place at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri. It marked the NDMC's initiative to usher in spring and celebrate the vibrant blooming of tulips in the heart of the national capital region, as stated in an official release.

Thousands from the Delhi-NCR area were captivated by the exquisite performances of Sitar Maestro Kushal Das and renowned Hindustani vocalist Ulhas Kashalkar.

The artists were joined by a talented ensemble including Ram Kumar Mishra on Tabla, Aashay Kulkarni on Tabla, Vinay Mishra on Harmonium, Sarwar Hussain on Sarang, and Sai Mahashabde providing vocal support.

This musical event was part of NDMC’s broader initiative to celebrate the spring season in the lush greenery of New Delhi.

One of the primary goals of these programs by NDMC is to enhance urban living conditions that are increasingly deteriorating due to the hectic pace of metropolitan life.

Promoting Art and Culture is a key responsibility of the NDMC as outlined in section 12 of the NDMC Act-1994. This mandate empowers the council to bring art and culture beyond the confines of museums and auditoriums, allowing the general public to engage.

The concert coincided closely with the upcoming launch of the 3rd edition of the NDMC Tulip Festival – 2025.

NDMC began its tulip planting initiative in 2017-18 with a trial of 17,000 bulbs, which has since flourished into an annual tradition for floral beautification in New Delhi. This endeavor has made NDMC the first civic body in India to plant tulips in public spaces.

This year, NDMC imported 3.25 lakh tulip bulbs, planting 2.25 lakh in open spaces, including 1.46 lakh at Shanti Path in Chanakyapuri.

Through trials in storage and multiplication, 10,880 large bulbs were produced and planted. In partnership with the Institute of Himalayan Bio-Resources Technology – CSIR, 14,735 bulbs were cultivated in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, and were brought in for this Tulip Festival.
