Sanjay Subrahmanyan (Carnatic Vocal) was joined by S. Varadarajan (Violin) and Neyveli B. Venkatesh (Mridangam) on the concert’s second day at Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), in partnership with SPIC MACAY and SRF Foundation, is orchestrating this concert, which will conclude on Monday with performances by Uday Bawalkar (Hindustani Vocal), accompanied by Shri Sukhad Munde (Pakhawaj), Prassanna Vishwanathan (vocal support), and Begum Parween Sultana (Hindustani Vocal).
Thousands from across Delhi-NCR, including diplomats, government personnel, corporate workers, and students, enjoyed the soulful music during Sunday’s event.
An official noted that these musical gatherings take place in the tranquil surroundings of Nehru Park, allowing attendees to relish free live performances by both established and emerging artists.
The aim of organizing cultural activities like music, dance, and performing arts by NDMC is to enhance urban life, which is gradually declining in metropolitan areas, and to provide residents with a respite from their hectic routines, the official explained.
The promotion of Art and Culture is a key responsibility of NDMC as stipulated under section-12 of the NDMC Act-1994. This provision mandates the Council to bring art and culture beyond the confines of museums and auditoriums to open spaces where the public can engage.
On the first day of the concert, performers included Ashwini Bhide Deshpande (Hindustani Vocal) along with L Subramaniam and Ambi (Carnatic Violin), accompanied by N. Radhakrishnan (Mridangam), Akram Khan (Tabla), and Ganesan Natarajan (Kanjira).
This concert commemorates 21 years of NDMC’s cherished musical tradition in alliance with SPIC MACAY.
