New Delhi, July 11 (NationPress) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has announced plans to establish a Sculpture Park aimed at showcasing the works of both established and emerging artists, revealed Chairman Keshav Chandra on Friday.
This declaration was made during the inauguration of “Srijan” – an open-air art gallery situated at Nehru Park, Chanakyapuri, by Chandra and Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal.
Notable figures such as eminent artist Rameshwar Broota, Padma Shri awardees Biman Bihari Das (Sculptor) and Jai Prakash Lakhiwal (Artist), along with Harsh Vardhan Sharma, Advisor (Art & Culture) of NDMC, were also in attendance.
The event's highlight included live painting sessions conducted by Padma award winners and celebrated artists, providing the public with a unique chance to witness the artistic process unfold.
Chandra mentioned that the gallery houses an impressive array of artworks, which are available for public viewing and purchase from acclaimed artists like Praveen Upadhye, Kalicharan Gupta, Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Jai Zharotia, Sanjay Ashtapure, Anil Gaikwad, Shrikant Kadam, Sabai Khan, Anu Naik, M.D. Soleman, Rajesh Chand, Sanjib Gogai, Ravindra Salve, Manish Pushkle, Rohit Sharma, Kishore Roy, among others.
He emphasized that “Srijan” serves not just as an open-air gallery, but as a creative hub envisioned and curated by the NDMC for artists and art lovers.
This revitalized cultural space embodies the spirit of Viksit Bharat @ 2047 - India’s aspirational vision for a progressive, inclusive, and culturally vibrant future, according to Chahal.
Initially established in 1999, Srijan has long been a vibrant meeting point for renowned artists, emerging talents, and art enthusiasts.
Every Sunday, painters, sculptors, graphic artists, cartoonists, and photographers gather to create, share, and showcase their work in a collaborative atmosphere.
Chandra indicated that Srijan Artists’ Corner, a 172.50 sq. meter open-air space, has now been transformed into the modern “Srijan Art Gallery,” which has been significantly upgraded with new facilities and design features.
The newly enhanced gallery now boasts a dedicated entry gate, a curated Art Display Corner, landscaped gazebos, improved public seating, and an expanded open area of approximately 15,225 sq. meters, making it an inviting venue for both artists and visitors.
Over the years, Srijan has hosted numerous painting and sculpture exhibitions, pottery workshops, and on-the-spot art events, helping to nurture generations of artists, as Chandra noted.
