New Delhi, Feb 23 (NationPress) Today marks the official launch of the annual Tulip Festival-2026, hosted by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at the iconic Shanti Path Lawn in the heart of the capital.
As part of the event, attendees can look forward to a special Tulip Walk and an exhibition, as stated by an official.
The Tulip Walk and the exhibition will display a dazzling variety of blooming tulips and floral arrangements, all curated by the Horticulture Department. This will commence on Monday morning near the Embassy of Sudan in Chanakyapuri,
Originally scheduled to begin on February 17, the festival's inauguration was delayed by a week due to heightened security protocols for the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi.
During the release of the NDMC's budget last month, NDMC Vice-Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal shared ambitious plans for this year's festival, aiming for a grand celebration.
To enhance the city's beauty, a total of 5.53 lakh tulip bulbs will be planted, many of which have been cultivated domestically and in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh as part of the Make in India initiative.
Last year, for the first time, the NDMC introduced potted tulip plants, making available one lakh tulip bulbs for public purchase at various notable locations including Shanti Path Lawn, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden, Central Park, and NDMC nurseries (such as Safdarjung Madarsa, Gurudwara Park, and Purana Quila Road).
In addition to these beautification efforts, Chahal remarked, “The NDMC is on a journey to become the most progressive municipality in the nation, focusing on sustainability and self-reliance.”
He emphasized the vision of creating a New Delhi that embodies modernity, sustainability, and civic responsibility, echoing a benchmark set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Additionally, a park near Nazaf Khan Road in Lodhi Colony is under development to become a Miyawaki forest.
As part of the plantation initiative, 3,500 trees, 29.93 lakh shrubs, and 502 bamboo plants have already been planted, with goals to plant 5,100 trees and 4,71,150 shrubs in 2026–27. Furthermore, ten decentralized sewage treatment plants (STPs) are currently operational, with plans for twelve new STPs and five Effluent Treatment Plants.
