Guwahati, March 26 (NationPress) Authorities in Assam's Silchar town, located in the Cachar district, apprehended a Nigerian national while also detaining three local residents for allegedly offering him illegal shelter, as reported by the police on Thursday.
Cachar district's Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch), Rajat Kumar Pal, informed the media that the foreign individual, recognized as Emeka Asedo, was taken into custody from the Shillong Patty area of Silchar.
“During initial questioning, the detained individual was unable to present any legitimate travel or identification documents, which raised significant concerns about his legal standing in India,” stated Pal.
Following extensive questioning, police discovered that local residents had allegedly facilitated Asedo's stay in the area.
In response to this information, a police team executed follow-up operations, resulting in the arrest of three individuals for harboring the foreign national.
The detained suspects have been identified as Tinku Hussain Barbhuiya and Pinku Hussain Barbhuiya, who reportedly assisted in securing accommodation for the Nigerian national, along with Robina Begum Barbhuiya, who is believed to have acted as a liaison.
