New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Armed Forces Medical Services to enhance the mental well-being of defense personnel, as stated by the Ministry of Defence on Thursday.
This MoU aims to promote joint research and training initiatives that will bolster mental health support and care for the armed forces. The partnership between AFMS and NIMHANS will concentrate on improving mental health services and providing specialized training for medical staff.
Moreover, it will create innovative programs to tackle the mental health challenges faced by soldiers, sailors, airmen, their families, and dependants, according to the Ministry.
The primary goals of the MoU include collaborative research, faculty exchange, and academic endeavors. NIMHANS, leveraging its expertise in neuropsychiatry, will assist in research focused on advanced psychiatric care and support for military personnel, addressing prevalent issues like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression.
“The mental health of our soldiers is as crucial as their physical health. This collaboration with NIMHANS will ensure that our personnel receive optimal support to manage the challenges they encounter while serving our country,” stated Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin.
“It is a privilege to partner with Armed Forces Medical Services to bring the Institute’s expertise in mental health care to the defense sector. Our goal is to provide world-class support to those who serve our nation, ensuring they receive the mental health care they deserve,” remarked Dr Pratima Murthy, Director of NIMHANS.
This collaborative initiative represents a vital move towards acknowledging the significance of mental health for armed forces personnel and is anticipated to establish a standard for similar initiatives throughout the country.
Both organizations are dedicated to delivering comprehensive mental health services that enhance the overall welfare of the armed forces.
