Mumbai, Feb 12 (NationPress) Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam on Wednesday expressed his backing for Maharashtra Minister Nitesh Rane’s controversial proposal, advocating for a ban on madrasas in the state to 'prevent acts of terror'. Earlier that day, Rane stated he had penned a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging the state government to take decisive action against madrasas 'under scrutiny' for allegedly promoting extremist activities.

In an interview with IANS, Sanjay Nirupam asserted that certain madrasas were being 'misused' and 'exploited' by terrorist networks with international connections.

“Though madrasas have noble foundations, some are being misappropriated by terrorist organizations for anti-national endeavors. We must ensure that no madrasa—whether legal or illegal—serves as a base for such operations,” he emphasized.

He further urged the Maharashtra government to promptly shut down any illegal madrasas and take stringent actions against those identified as housing terrorist elements.

“If any madrasa is discovered to be involved in anti-India activities, stringent legal measures should be enforced,” Nirupam insisted.

This follows Nitesh Rane's concerns regarding an illegal madrasa in Nandurbar's Akkalkuwa taluka, where a Yemeni national was allegedly plotting terrorist activities. He implored the Maharashtra government to scrutinize all madrasas statewide to ensure they do not foster terrorism, particularly cautioning against affiliations with groups like the Taliban.

Previously, Rane stirred controversy in January by advocating for a ban on burqas during board examinations, citing worries about possible malpractices.

In a letter to the School Education Minister Dada Bhuse, Rane stated that permitting female students to wear burqas in examination halls could facilitate cheating and pose security challenges.

“Students taking the 10th and 12th board exams should not be allowed to wear burqas. If needed, female police officers or staff should be assigned to conduct checks. These exams are vital for students’ futures and must be executed transparently, free from any opportunities for malpractice,” he articulated.
