Agartala/Guwahati, Feb 1 (NationPress) The Chief Ministers of the northeastern states expressed their appreciation for the Union Budget 2025-26, stating that it would be significantly advantageous for the region in various aspects.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma labeled Saturday as a historic day for the state, declaring on X: "What a historic day for Assam! The Union Budget 2025 has revealed a 12.7 lakh MT urea plant in Namrup, a long-awaited request from the people of Assam."
"Following the semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, this urea facility will be a game changer for the entire North East. It will not only assist us in achieving self-sufficiency in fertilizer availability but also optimize our natural gas resources. I extend my heartfelt thanks on behalf of the people of Assam to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman Ji," he posted.
To further enhance urea supply in the northeastern states, a plant capable of producing 12.7 lakh metric tons annually will be established in Namrup, located in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also expressed high praise for the Union Budget, which was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
"I commend Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi and Finance Minister, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman Ji for improving regional connectivity throughout the nation under the UDAN Scheme," he stated in a post on X.
"Manipur and the greater North East region have already experienced a transformative shift in air connectivity under the UDAN scheme, which has fostered travel, tourism, and trade & commerce, contributing to the growth of the entire region. With more airports across the nation, the middle class will fulfill their aspirations for quicker and more affordable travel," remarked the Chief Minister.
During her Budget speech in the Lok Sabha, the Union Finance Minister indicated that a revised UDAN scheme would be initiated to boost regional connectivity to 120 new destinations and transport 4 crore passengers over the next decade. The scheme will also support helipads and smaller airports in hilly, aspirational, and northeastern district areas.
Highlighting that the Union Budget 2025 aims to raise the loan limit for Kisan Credit Cards from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, benefiting 7.7 crore farmers, fishermen, and dairy farmers, Biren Singh described it as: "A step towards empowering our farmers and fostering growth."
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma also commended the revised UDAN scheme, stating on X: "Gratitude to Hon’ble FM, Smti. Nirmala Sitharaman Ji for announcing the modified UDAN Scheme to enhance regional connectivity through helipads and smaller airports for hilly, aspirational, and northeastern districts, giving wings to regional connectivity for Destination NE."
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha took to X to praise the Budget 2025 as the Modi government’s framework for a Viksit Bharat and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, encompassing farmers, the underprivileged, the middle class, education, nutrition, health, startups, and innovation. "Kudos to Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi and Nirmala Sitharaman."
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, in his post on X, congratulated FM Sitharaman for unveiling a historic 8th consecutive Union Budget. "I appreciate the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and empowerment by focusing on farmers, rural prosperity, regional connectivity, and women entrepreneurs from SC/ST," Rio expressed.
Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, in his post on X, said: "On behalf of the people of Sikkim, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and Hon’ble Union Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman Ji for presenting a transformative and inclusive budget that genuinely reflects the aspirations of our nation."
He noted that the Union Budget 2025 signifies a crucial stride towards a Vikshit Bharat, with a strong focus on GYAN (Garib, Youth, Nari, and Annadata), aimed at empowering marginalized communities, fostering youth potential, and creating ample job opportunities. It also bolsters the vision of Make in India, encouraging innovation, self-reliance, and the growth of indigenous industries, he remarked.
