Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed that the endorsement for establishing the 'NaMo Semiconductor Laboratory' at IIT Bhubaneswar is a significant step that will enhance research capabilities and elevate the state's involvement in both the national and international semiconductor industries.

He conveyed his heartfelt thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, for giving the green light to the 'NaMo Semiconductor Laboratory' at IIT Bhubaneswar.

In a post on his X account, CM Majhi stated: “I sincerely thank Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodiJi and Union Minister for Electronics & IT Shri @AshwiniVaishnawJi for approving the ‘NaMo Semiconductor Laboratory’ at IIT Bhubaneswar.”

He further noted that with the recent approval of the State Semiconductor Policy by the Odisha Cabinet and multiple MoUs signed with top semiconductor firms, this project will position Odisha as a key hub for semiconductor research, design, and advanced manufacturing.

“I am optimistic that the 'NaMo Semiconductor Laboratory' will motivate our youth, hasten research, and further solidify Odisha’s standing on the national and global semiconductor landscape, while promoting the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Design in India’ initiatives,” added Majhi.

In a pivotal move to bolster India’s semiconductor ecosystem, the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) announced on Sunday that Union Minister Vaishnaw has sanctioned the establishment of the 'NaMo Semiconductor Laboratory' at IIT Bhubaneswar.

The ministry also disclosed that the project, projected to cost Rs 4.95 crore, will be financed under the MPLAD Scheme.

The NaMo Semiconductor Lab aims to equip India’s youth with industry-ready semiconductor skills and enhance the nation’s expanding talent pool in chip design.

“It will serve to position IIT Bhubaneswar as a premier center for semiconductor research, training, and innovation,” the ministry stated.
