During a special gathering to commemorate International Labour Day on May 1, 2025, CM Majhi emphasized the significant contributions of labourers towards national development, acknowledging their role as the driving force behind the country’s progress over many decades.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister unveiled a mobile application titled 'Odisha Sramik Sathi', designed to simplify the registration process and access to welfare benefits for labourers.
“This app will substantially assist workers in applying for various services such as labour cards, renewals, and other benefits online from their homes or workplaces,” asserted CM Majhi.
He noted that the Labour and Employees' State Insurance Department of the state government has been consistently focused on upholding the legal rights and social security of workers in both organized and unorganized sectors.
According to the commitments made by the BJP during the elections, the natural death benefit for labourers has been raised from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, while the accidental death benefit has increased from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
The Chief Minister revealed that approximately 47 lakh construction workers have been registered under the Nirman Shramik Kalyan Yojana, with financial assistance exceeding Rs 3,951 crore already disbursed under this scheme, promoting the overall welfare of labourers and their families.
During his address, CM Majhi mentioned that a task force has been established, chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister, to identify and integrate migrant workers into the mainstream.
He added that the state government has crafted a special State Action Plan to address the challenges faced by Odia migrant workers.
To further assist unorganized sector workers, the state has established 'Shramik Pratikhya Kendras' at Dumduma and Kalpana Square in Bhubaneswar, which aim to provide shelter to daily wage labourers from harsh weather while they await job opportunities.
Labour & ESI Minister Ganesh Ram Sing Khuntia and Principal Secretary of the Labour Department, Chithra Arumugam, along with other dignitaries, attended the event.
