Bhubaneswar, Feb 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi, expressed strong support for the newly established India–US trade agreement, stating that it promises to significantly enhance the state's economy by broadening the export range of handloom products, seafood, and rare earth minerals.
In a statement on his official X account, CM Majhi pointed out the potential of Odisha's handloom sector, saying, "Whether it’s Odisha's handloom creations or contemporary ready-made garments, the craftsmanship of Odisha will now have the opportunity to reach global markets because of the India–US trade deal. With tariff reductions, exports will become more accessible, opening new job opportunities for our weavers and artisans. Odisha's traditional garments will set a new trend worldwide."
He went on to highlight that the technological collaboration between India and the US is expected to position Odisha prominently within the global semiconductor supply chain.
"Given the increasing global demand for rare-earth minerals found in Odisha, the state is set to emerge as a center for advanced technological skills. This agreement will link Odisha's mineral wealth with 'Global Tech'," he stated.
The Chief Minister further noted that the India-US trade deal and lower tariffs will open up the US market for Indian seafood, which will economically empower fishermen and farmers in the coastal areas of the state.
He also mentioned that Odisha is poised to become a key player in the 'Blue Economy' as a result of this economic partnership.
"This new trade agreement will redefine Odisha's seafood economy. The demand for Odisha's prawns, fish, and other seafood products is set to rise in the US market due to tariff reductions. This will boost the incomes of fishermen and farmers along the coast, positioning Odisha as a significant center in the 'Blue Economy'," CM Majhi remarked.
Additionally, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed that the historic India-US trade deal is nearing completion of its final details.
