Bhubaneswar, March 2 (NationPress) The temperature in Odisha is on the rise, signaling a blistering heat wave in the coastal state as the summer season approaches this year.

According to reports, the highest temperature recorded on Sunday in Odisha was in Boudh town, reaching 38.2 degrees Celsius. Additionally, ten cities across the state reported temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius or higher on that day.

The state capital, Bhubaneswar, logged a temperature of 36.1 degrees Celsius by Sunday, which is an increase of around 2 degrees Celsius compared to Saturday.

The regional center of the Indian Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar indicated that the maximum temperature for the city is expected to hover around 36 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.

Furthermore, Titilagarh in the Balangir district and Akola in Maharashtra both recorded the highest temperature in the country on Saturday, hitting 38.5 degrees Celsius.

The IMD's regional center reported that maximum temperatures were significantly above normal by approximately 3-4 degrees Celsius in several areas of Interior Odisha and at certain locations in Coastal Odisha on Saturday. However, it further anticipated that there would be no significant changes in daytime temperatures in Odisha over the next four to five days.

According to the IMD, “No significant fluctuations in maximum temperature (daytime temperature) are predicted for the next four to five days, nor any substantial changes in minimum temperature (nighttime temperature) across Odisha during this period.”

The IMD also indicated that Odisha could experience extended periods of above-normal maximum temperatures throughout the summer season from March to May.

“During the upcoming hot weather season (March to May), elevated maximum temperatures are highly likely in most regions of the country, excluding the southern parts of Peninsular India and isolated areas in Northeast India, which may see normal to below-normal maximum temperatures,” forecasts the weather agency of India.

The IMD has urged citizens to adopt personal safety measures, such as staying hydrated, avoiding peak sun hours, and seeking cooler environments to mitigate the adverse health effects of heatwaves.
