New Delhi, Aug 13 (NationPress) The ruling BJP has declined to comply with the Opposition's requests regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative in Bihar, accusing them of politicizing the issue for their own benefit. In response, Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, known as Pappu Yadav, challenged the ruling party, asking, “If we are engaging in politics, then what is their contribution—social service?” He voiced his support for Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's forthcoming yatra in Bihar, asserting that the ruling government must be held accountable for its shortcomings.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, is scheduled to launch the ‘Matdata Adhikar (Voters’ Rights) Yatra’ across Bihar in three stages, covering 30 districts starting August 17. This event was initially planned for August 10 but was delayed by a week due to the passing of JMM founder and former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren.
Pappu Yadav highlighted the essential role the Opposition plays in a democracy, stating, “In a democratic framework, the Opposition is crucial for safeguarding democratic values and integrity. They achieve this by challenging misguided policies and holding the government answerable. It is their responsibility to awaken the dormant government and remind them of their oaths. When the underprivileged are taken advantage of, the Opposition must voice their concerns.”
Yadav defended Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing outreach initiatives, emphasizing, “Rahul Gandhi is fulfilling his responsibilities; he is not merely engaging in politics. Who else traverses thousands of kilometers to connect with the populace? While many conduct politics on social media platforms like X, Rahul Gandhi's efforts are tangible and grounded, reaching real individuals,” he shared with IANS.
He also expressed his thoughts on Rahul's ‘Matdata Adhikar’ Yatra in Bihar, stating, “Rahul Gandhi has journeyed from Manipur to Gujarat, Kashmir to Kanyakumari. He is the sole leader pursuing the path of struggle and truth. This Yatra is ongoing, not confined to a single date. Presently, every institution and resource is under threat. With the SIR, the people of Bihar face an assault on their voting rights.”
The Yatra will commence from Rohtas and will traverse significant areas including Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya, Nawada, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Jamui, and others, ultimately culminating in Patna. This campaign aims to garner public support against what Gandhi describes as an attack on the Indian Constitution.
When questioned regarding Congress's standing within the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) during Rahul Gandhi's visit, Yadav replied, “All alliance members are collaborating effectively. Negotiations take place with Congress, but Congress does not barter its principles. Congress resembles the sea—every drain flows into it, but the sea remains unchanged. Rahul Gandhi will not negotiate; his sole focus is the nation and exposing the BJP's failed governance.”
