Patna, Sep 1 (NationPress) The Voter Rights Yatra, initiated by the INDIA bloc under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi on August 17, is poised to culminate today in Patna.
The RJD has taken the lead in orchestrating the final march, adorning Patna with vibrant posters and banners. Key routes from Veerchand Patel Path to Gandhi Maidan and Patna High Court have been embellished with campaign materials.
A significant turnout of opposition leaders from all over Bihar is anticipated for this closing event.
The concluding procession will journey from Gandhi Maidan to the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue near Patna High Court.
Leading the rally will be Congress leader Rahul Gandhi alongside Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, accompanied by Members of Parliament, Legislative Assembly, Legislative Council, and senior leaders from the INDIA bloc.
According to Shakti Singh Yadav, the chief spokesperson for the RJD, representatives from all constituents of the INDIA bloc will participate.
Noteworthy figures from outside Bihar, such as Trinamool Congress MP Yusuf Pathan, Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT), and Supriya Sule from the NCP, will also be part of the concluding march.
Shakti Singh Yadav emphasized that the primary objective of the Yatra is to combat vote theft.
He accused the NDA of being unsettled by the campaign, asserting that the Yatra has garnered substantial public backing.
Tejashwi Yadav has consistently raised concerns regarding discrepancies in the voter list, highlighting the Election Commission’s initial refusal to recognize Aadhaar as valid proof, which was later mandated by the Supreme Court to disclose the removal of 65 lakh names.
He stated, “Opposition concerns regarding voter list discrepancies are initially neither acknowledged nor accepted by the electoral body. A voter’s name should not exist in multiple constituencies. We will ensure that vote robbery is resisted at all costs.”
The spokesperson for the RJD directed criticism at the BJP, questioning: “Shouldn’t the BJP clarify whether the Gujarat leader (Bhikhubhai Dalsaniya) whose name was added in Bihar has established permanent residency here? Is there any constitutional provision allowing someone to travel across the country and vote in multiple locations?”
Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram confirmed that the necessary administrative permissions for the march have been obtained.
He added that the rally will proceed from Gandhi Maidan to Dak Bungalow Chowk, with participation from all INDIA bloc partners.
The Voter Rights Yatra, spanning 14 days and covering 23 districts, has emerged as a significant political issue, with the INDIA bloc framing it as a battle to “protect” democracy, while the NDA dismisses it as mere propaganda.
