New Delhi, March 8 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Initiative in Sarojini Nagar, New Delhi on Sunday, where he presented the keys of the Type-5 quarters to female beneficiaries.
These projects are strategically located in areas such as Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Sriniwaspuri. They form part of the government's initiative to modernize GPRA colonies and establish world-class infrastructure for government personnel and administrative offices.
Valued at Rs 15,200 crore, these redevelopment projects function under a self-sustaining financial framework that avoids placing additional financial strain on the public budget.
This model allows the government to develop and monetize a limited section of the project area for commercial and residential purposes to finance the overall redevelopment.
The income generated will support the construction of modern government housing, improved infrastructure, and public amenities.
The redevelopment plan aims to deliver over 9,350 contemporary flats for government employees, alongside approximately 48 lakh square feet of office space. This will greatly improve administrative efficiency while also creating monetization opportunities.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for metro projects in Delhi, amounting to approximately Rs 18,300 crore. He will unveil two new corridors of the Delhi Metro.
These include the Majlis Park-Maujpur Babarpur (Pink Line) corridor, spanning around 12.3 km, and the Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park (Magenta Line) corridor, covering about 9.9 km. This new connectivity will serve numerous regions in Delhi, including Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa, and Majlis Park.
Furthermore, PM Modi will lay the groundwork for three new corridors as part of Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro, extending over a route length of around 16.10 km. The new corridors will connect R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.
These routes will facilitate direct access to several pivotal locations in the national capital, enhancing travel for residents commuting between Noida, South Delhi, and the airport.
