PM Modi Highlights Water Security as the Primary Challenge of the 21st Century

Khajuraho, Dec 25 (NationPress) During a public event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that water security is the foremost challenge of the 21st century, highlighting ongoing disputes among several states regarding water sharing.
This statement was made by PM Modi while he was laying the foundation stone for the nation's inaugural river interlinking initiative—the Ken-Betwa project in Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho.
"One of the most pressing challenges of the 21st century is water security. A country that possesses adequate water and manages it effectively will be the one to progress," stated PM Modi.
He remarked that agricultural prosperity and industrial growth are contingent on the availability of water. He expressed that the past decade would be etched in Indian history as a remarkable era for water security and conservation.
PM Modi shared his experience from Gujarat, where drought plagued many regions until the advent of the Narmada River from Madhya Pradesh transformed the region’s fortunes.
He criticized the Congress party for neglecting the contributions of the visionary behind India’s water resources, Babasaheb Ambedkar. "After achieving Independence, the first significant focus was on Jal Shakti, and credit for this vision should go to Babasaheb Ambedkar; yet, Congress has failed to acknowledge his contributions," he remarked.
He further commented on the Congress administration's tendency to announce projects without delivering tangible benefits to the populace.
"Upon becoming Prime Minister, I reviewed older projects and was astonished to discover that some had their foundation stones laid 35-40 years ago without any progress being made since," PM Modi noted.
The Ken-Betwa river linking project, introduced by PM Modi, aims to provide irrigation support to various districts in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, benefiting countless farming families.
Additionally, PM Modi inaugurated 1,153 Atal Gram Sushasan buildings and launched a Floating Solar Project at Omkareshwar in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh.
He also unveiled a commemorative stamp and coin celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
