New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the Gyan Bharatam Portal on Friday at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, igniting discussions aimed at revitalising India’s rich manuscript heritage during an international conference on traditional knowledge.
This three-day conference, which runs from September 11 to 13, is themed, “Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage.”
The Gyan Bharatam Portal is a dedicated digital initiative designed to enhance manuscript digitisation, preservation, and public accessibility, as stated by officials.
The conference convenes prominent scholars, conservationists, technologists, and policy-makers to discuss strategies for revitalising India’s unique manuscript heritage and integrating it into global knowledge dialogues.
Attendees can also enjoy an exhibition showcasing rare manuscripts along with scholarly presentations covering critical topics such as conservation, digitisation technologies, metadata standards, legal frameworks, cultural diplomacy, and the decipherment of ancient scripts.
Earlier, during World Sanskrit Day on August 9, PM Modi underscored the significance of the language in safeguarding India's ancient knowledge and traditions.
On a post shared on X, he highlighted the enduring relevance and global influence of the Sanskrit language.
“Today, on Shravan Poornima, we celebrate World Sanskrit Day. Sanskrit is an everlasting source of knowledge and expression. Its impact spans multiple sectors. This day serves as a tribute to everyone worldwide who is learning and promoting Sanskrit,” he stated.
In a subsequent post, the Prime Minister acknowledged the government’s initiatives aimed at reviving and popularising Sanskrit across India over the past decade.
“In the past decade, our Government has launched several initiatives to popularise Sanskrit. These include establishing Central Sanskrit Universities, creating Sanskrit Learning Centres, providing grants to Sanskrit scholars, and the Gyan Bharatam Mission for manuscript digitisation. This has greatly benefitted numerous students and researchers,” he noted.
In agreement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted: “The divine language Sanskrit embodies India’s essence, resonates with the wisdom of sages, and serves as an eternal reservoir of knowledge. This language is fundamental to our tradition, wisdom, and global intellectuality. Let us resolve on World Sanskrit Day to preserve, promote, and integrate this nectar-like language into our daily lives.”
