New Delhi, Sep 12 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially launched the Gyan Bharatam Portal on Friday, aiming to further the digitisation of India's vast manuscript heritage.

Underlining the tragic loss of countless manuscripts throughout history, the Prime Minister highlighted the critical need to explore our past using technology.

He pointed out that despite historical setbacks, India is home to the world's largest collection of manuscripts, estimated at around one crore, emphasizing the need for preservation and public access.

“India's cultural identity is unique, with its own consciousness and soul,” said the Prime Minister, stressing that our history goes beyond mere records of dynastic shifts.

Although the boundaries of princely states have evolved, the geographical essence of India remains unchanged, spanning from the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean.

PM Modi mentioned that nations showcase their historical artefacts as symbols of cultural greatness, and India’s rich collection of manuscripts is a source of national pride.

“Our knowledge tradition thrives today, bolstered by four pillars: Preservation, Innovation, Addition, and Adaptation,” he articulated.

He underscored the vital role of the Gyan Bharatam Mission in unlocking new research avenues in a global cultural industry valued at approximately $2.5 trillion.

Digitized manuscripts are set to enhance the value chains within this sector, creating a substantial data repository that will fuel data-driven innovation.

PM Modi expressed optimism that this initiative will generate new opportunities for the youth in technology and expand academic research possibilities.

To effectively study these digital manuscripts, he advocated for increased use of advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence, which can deepen our understanding and enhance analysis.

AI, he noted, can help in presenting the knowledge within these manuscripts to the world in a profound and authentic manner.

Encouraging the nation’s youth to engage with the Gyan Bharatam Mission, PM Modi stressed the importance of leveraging technology to connect with our historical roots.

He called for concerted efforts to ensure this knowledge is made accessible to humanity based on evidence-based frameworks.

The Prime Minister also urged universities and institutions across India to initiate new efforts in this direction, reinforcing the national spirit of Swadeshi and the resolve of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He asserted that transforming our heritage into a symbol of strength is imperative, and the Gyan Bharatam Mission signifies the dawn of a new chapter for India’s future.
