Guwahati, May 21 (NationPress) On the eve of the grand unveiling by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the engineers and officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) are putting the final touches on the historic, 138-year-old Haibargaon station in Assam.
According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the NFR, Haibargaon station, located in central Assam's Nagaon district, is distinguished as the first railway station in the northeastern state among the 50 stations earmarked for redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).
The Prime Minister will virtually inaugurate a total of 103 revamped railway stations nationwide, including Assam’s Haibargaon station, on May 22.
“Thursday will mark an important milestone for Assam and the broader northeastern region. This event is significant in the national rollout of the ABSS, as Haibargaon stands as the inaugural redeveloped station from the 50 selected in Assam,” stated the CPRO.
The event, part of a larger nationwide initiative, highlights Haibargaon’s redevelopment, which has been undertaken at a cost of approximately Rs 15.85 crore, representing a fresh chapter for railway infrastructure in the region.
Sharma emphasized that this inauguration is particularly noteworthy as it reflects the Prime Minister’s commitment to enhancing grassroots infrastructure and improving regional connectivity.
The transformation of Haibargaon station signifies not just technological advancement and architectural refinement, but also the government’s dedication to integrating the northeast into the broader narrative of rapid national growth.
“This is a proud moment for both the NFR and Assam, as it leads the state’s involvement in one of the Indian Railways’ most ambitious station redevelopment projects,” he noted.
The choice of Haibargaon as the first station to be inaugurated under the ABSS in Assam underscores its strategic significance and the successful implementation of a vision focused on passenger-oriented modernization.
With enhanced facilities, better accessibility, and cultural aesthetics, this station sets a new standard for the 49 other stations in Assam slated for redevelopment, Sharma pointed out.
As the Prime Minister unveils this gateway to a modern rail experience, Haibargaon emerges not merely as a station but as a beacon of progress, pride, and promise for the citizens of Assam and the entire northeastern region.
