Guwahati, May 20 (NationPress) In a significant move under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate 103 redeveloped railway stations nationwide on May 22, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.

The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, has stated that among the 103 stations, Haibargaon Railway Station under NFR will also be inaugurated by the Prime Minister.

Located in Nagaon district of Assam, Haibargaon has historical significance, having been a vital hub during British rule owing to Nagaon's prominence in tea production and modern education.

Sharma noted that the station, originally constructed in 1887, has been revamped into a world-class facility, praised for its stunning architecture and contemporary amenities.

A team of senior NFR officials visited the station on Tuesday to inspect and showcase the upgraded passenger facilities ahead of the inauguration.

The public's reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, according to the CPRO.

Elderly visitors reminisced about the days of coal-fired steam engines and the station's modest layout, expressing astonishment at the extensive improvements, which now include expansive areas and a variety of passenger-friendly features.

Travelers like Shahil Kumar Rai from Guwahati, who visited the nearby Mahamrityunjay Temple, were particularly impressed by the station's transformation.

He noted that what was once an ordinary station now boasts a grand entrance, a spacious concourse, well-organized parking, modern waiting areas, modular and accessible restrooms, ramps, and user-friendly ticket counters.

Despite being a smaller station, Haibargaon now surpasses many larger ones in terms of infrastructure and passenger comfort.

The station has also been beautified with murals and thematic sculptures that showcase Assamese culture and heritage, enhancing its visual charm, he stated.

With an investment of Rs 15.85 crore, the station has evolved into a modern, accessible, and passenger-friendly center. Serving as a crucial transportation link, it handles an average of 1,200 passengers daily. Its redevelopment enhances urban mobility, regional trade, and elevates Nagaon's status as a cultural and transport hub in Northeast India, Sharma added.

He emphasized that Haibargaon, a historically significant locality in Nagaon (central Assam), plays a vital role in Assam's transportation and cultural framework.

NFR is committed to fulfilling public expectations and improving travel experiences.

Sharma also mentioned that redevelopment efforts at 50 railway stations across Assam under ABSS are progressing swiftly, ensuring that the residents of Assam will soon benefit from upgraded, efficient, and culturally-rich railway infrastructure, making connectivity in NFR a modern and enhanced approach.

Point of View

I believe this redevelopment initiative not only enhances the travel experience for passengers but also showcases India's commitment to modernizing its infrastructure. This strategic move is vital for regional development and cultural preservation, ensuring the people of Assam and Northeast India benefit significantly.
